PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The paramedic program offered by Braxton is based on the curriculum set forth by the United States Department of Transportation. This 1136 hour program uses 3 objectives for teaching; Cognitive, Effective, Psycho-motor. The student must successfully pass each phase of the Paramedic program, which covers, didactic, hands on training, hospital rotations, and field internship.The following objectives have been established for the EMS Department of Braxton concerning the Paramedic Program. The Paramedic course is a diploma program. After successful completion of the program requirements set forth by Braxton the student may be eligible to sit for the cognitive exam.

 Features

The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment.

Paramedic Program with Outcomes

CAAHEP Accredited Paramedic Programs and CoAEMSP Letter of Review (LoR) Programs track and report outcome measures annually to the Committee on Accreditation for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

This is only for the CoAEMSP 2021 annual reporting and does not include regular retention and placement rates for ABHES which are above 70% for 2019 – 2022

Paramedic Program with no Outcomes

There were no graduates during the 2021 reporting year. 

If the program has previous reported outcomes, then those outcomes should remain and the statement should also be added.

 

  • Allow the student to understand the different types of laws
  • HIV/AIDS 4 hours
  • Prepare the student for challenging medical treatment choices.
  • Teach basic anatomy & physiology to the student
  • Prepare the student to understand pharmacology treatments, as well as the effects on the human body.
  • Prepare the student for a basic patient assessment.
  • Reinforce all EMT basic knowledge
  • Review CPR
  • Teach proper procedure for IV placement, and proper medication administration
  • Allow students in the lab setting to participate in real life scenarios.
  • Prepare the student for a basic understanding of the heart
  • Successfully complete the ACLS provider course.
  • The student should be able to calculate drug formulas.
  • Prepare the correct medication dose, and administer the desired infusion.
  • Able to interpret an EKG strip, and provide the proper treatment.
  • Able to interpret a 12 lead strip.
  • Prepare the student for challenging medical and trauma treatment choices.
  • Teach basic anatomy & physiology to the student
  • Prepare the student to understand pharmacology treatments, as well as the effects on the human body.
  • Prepare the student for a basic & advanced patient assessment.
  • Reinforce all EMT basic skills and basic CPR
  • Discuss further for IV placement and proper medication administration
  • Allow students in the lab setting to participate real life scenarios.
  • Prepare the student for a basic understanding of the heart
  • Successfully complete the PHTLS or ITLS provider course.
  • The student should be able to calculate drug formulas.
  • Prepare the correct medication dose, and administer the desired infusion.
  • Able to interpret an EKG strips, 12 leads and provide the proper treatment.
  • Basic understanding about trauma and trauma alert criteria.
  • Learn about medical, gynecological, obstetric emergencies and the proper treatments
  • Perform as a team leader.
