PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Students’ will learn the following topics: Hospital care of patients, patient assessment, baseline vital signs, bandaging, oxygen therapy, patient transport, focused and detailed examinations and patient reports. This session will orientate the student with the roles of the Emergency Department. Each student will work along medical professional in the field or hospital setting and gain the hands on training needed in the EMS field. This is presented in lecture and laboratory prior to the student being sent to clinical. An instructor will be with the student at all times.

 Features

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

  • Student shall complete all the requirements set forth by United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic safety Administration.
  • The student will need to have passed all module exams with a passing score.
  • The student will need to have successfully completed and passed the practical portion of the EMT Basic course, set forth by the National Registry guidelines.
  • Successfully complete the required clinical and field internship set forth by Braxton.
  • Be competent in all the objectives of the National curriculum.
  • Demonstrate, and comprehend all the clinical and didactic material through a final exam and practical.
  • Demonstrate good behavior throughout the course.
  • Be able to assist in becoming a new entry level EMT-B by displaying a professional attitude set forth by new employers.
  • Acknowledge the need for continuing education.
